Arts Culture Heritage and Education South Africa receives strong support. Culture is one of the four pillars of Gross National Happiness. 6% of all jobs in South Africa are creative ones and as a result iMbizo yamaKhono, gatherong of the arts syllabus based education is an important intervention.

DSAC (Sport included now) is governed by various policy tools including The 1996 White Paper, Bill of human rights – sections 22, 29 and 33. Interdepartmental cooperation includes; Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), SA Tourism, Department of Basic Education (DBE), DTI (Trade Industry), DOC (Communication) and SARS (Revenue Services). Priority areas for DSAC are Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE), the development of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), digital Innovation and Employment Stimulis.

National Arts Council

NAC

Department of Sports Arts and Culture (DSAC) distribute funds through their funding agency National Arts Council (NAC). NAC is often tasked with big projects such as Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP) and other significant projects such as Downtown Music Hub (DTMH). The NAC support of community arts centres has helped ensure adherance to Batho Pele principles of governance including consultation and transparency.

Business Arts South Africa

BASA

BASA is a NPO and was founded in 1997 with Nicola Danby as CEO and Mary Slack (granddaughter of Harry Oppenheimer) as Chair. The BASA board is elected by membership vote at the AGM, as per International Organisation Development South Africa (IODSA) regulations. BASA has over 100 member businesses, including philanthropic and trust supporters. 28% of their budget is disbursed as Supporting Grants. 22% of the budget is spent on “operations,” with a focus on skills development, and 16% on special projects including business arts media and new technology. BASA has supprted the marketing of iMbizo yamaKhono during the filming of Season 3 - Afrika Year.

Musicians Growth Path

PESP supports job creation, job protection and livelihood support programmes as part of a wider economic recovery progress. The creation of the iMbizo yamaKhono, "gatheringg of the arts" resources, performed and recorded live in studio with arts and culture professionals provides for a multiple economic growth path in the arts culture and heritage sectors all ages from primary school goers to veterans. The series has empowered 12 schools, 195 learners, 100 professional arts practitioners and 30 technical workers to date whilst developing data-base of schools and teachers for training materials with a particular focus on youth, women and disabled.

An agency mandated by the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, the National Film and Video Foundation provides funding for the development, production, marketing, and distribution of films – including helping filmmakers represent and market their work internationally. NFVF has provided research and development funding for BUSI : Her true story, a documenatry.
